p. 1., Note by Orme as follows :- "The first attempt at my History, composed at Madras in 1751, 1752, transcribed by my Portugueze Writer and Thomas Pelling. In the voyage from St. Helena to England when I left the ‘Bombay Castle’ and went on board, the 'Pelham' I recomposed this, and gave it as a document to Lord Holdernesse. It extends from the beginning of the Century; to the 24th March [1753] when I sailed with Clive from Madras, but some leaves are wanting at the end."
1, pp. 1-102. Revolutions of the Province of Carnatica. For subject matter compare II.29, which may be the revised copy above referred to as given to Lord Holdernesse. As regards the handwriting, Original letters from Thomas Pelling are to be found in volume 30. 1, 3, &c. The corrections all through and pages 95-102 of this volume are in Orme's handwriting.
