2, pp. 2-9 (37.5 x 26 cm.). Letter, dated [28th Aug. 1756], from M. Bussy to Mr. Deleyrit, concerning the blockade of Charmaul. Copy. In French. Duplicate of 15.8 and VI. 5.
3, p. 9 (37.5 x 26 cm.). Extract from a Letter, dated 31st August 1756,from Mons. Moraçin to Mons. Renault. Copy. In French. Duplicate of 15. 9, and copied in VI. 6.
4, pp. 9-11 (37.5 x 26 cm.). Letter written at Hyderabad towards the end of August 1756, by an officer of the detachment successfully conducted thither by Mons. Law. Copy. In French. Duplicate of 15. 10, and copied in VI. 7.
5, p. 12 (12.3 x 19 cm:). Loss of Law's Detachment marching to the relief of Charmaul. Copy. This is really the completion of No.4 above.
6, pp. 13-16 (32 x 19.5 cm.). Translate of an Ola or Letter which the King of Travencore proposed writing to the Governor of Madras, the 17th December 1756, and for that purpose sent it to Anjingo to be wrote in English. Copy. Asks the protection of the Company against Muhammad Ali, Nawab of Arcot.
7, pp. 15-18 (32 x 19.5 cm.). Letters, dated Changleput 23rd and Camp at Salewauck 25th June 1757, from Colonel Stringer Lawrence to Council. Copies. Written whilst in camp with Col. Adlercron.
8, pp. 19-26 (32 x 19.5 cm.). Letter, dated Madura 11th June 1757 from Lieut. William Rumbold to Messrs. Lawrence, and Wynch. Copy. Describes the failure of an attempt to storm Madura, the gallant defence of the Choultry in the River by Yusuf Khan, the punishment of the Sepoys who deserted Yusuf Kahn, the treachery of Mahfuz Khan and the gallant behaviour of Rama Naig.
9, pp.29-30 (32 x 19.5 cm.). Advices from Bengal received at Madras dated from Jany. 8th to March 30th. Received from the 14th of February to the 28th of April 1757.
10, pp. 31-59 (32 x 19.5 cm.). Extracts from Fort St. George Select Consultations:- (1) pp.31-37. 9th May 1757. Letter dated Camp before Vellore [i.e. Nellore], May 5th 1757, from Col. Francis Forde, narrating his failure to storm Nellore, sending a statement of losses and asking for reinforcements. Decided it would endanger Madras to send reinforcements; Forde's force recalled. Col. Forde's letter has been printed in Col. Lionel Forde's "Clive's Right Hand Man," p. 11. (2) pp.37-41. 26th May 1757. Approval of, Lieut. Bannatyne's behaviour at " Outremalour," which, his men being beyond control, he attacked contrary to the orders of Capt. Polier. (3) pp. 41-52. 8th June 1757. Letter, dated "Camp. Before Wandevash,6 June 1757" from Mr. James Lewis, Secretary to Col. Adlercron, to Council, describing the state of affairs at Wandiwash. It is noticeable that Mr. Lewis addresses the Council in his own name and not by order of Col. Adlercron.- Letter, dated Camp near Madura, 22 May I757, from Lieut. William Rumbold, describing the state of affairs at Madura. Decided to instruct Capt. Caillaud to take the fort at Madura if he considers the available force sufficient, and to thank him for “the resolution and good condunt with which he had effected tho relief of Trichinopoly." See. 52.7. (4) pp.52-59. 13th June 1757. Two letters, dated Areatoor Camp, 10th June 1757, from Col. Adlercron, and one dated , "Outremalour, 11th June, from Mr. James Lewis to Council, regarding the state of affairs at Wandiwash, which a Council of War had declared too strong to assault. Decided there is "nothing new to write to Col. Adlercron."
11, pp. 61-85 (22.5x 17.5 cm.) Extracts by me (Orme) from the Company's Records, concerning the Camp, the Presidency and Intelligence from all parts, concerning Tripetty fully at the end, from May 17th to Sept 22nd, and on to October 23rd and 24th and Nov. 29th [1757], when Thiagar surrendered.. In Orme's handwriting.
12, pp. 85-94 (31.5 x 19.5 cm.). Letter, dated Anjengo, 8th Sept. 1757, from John Spencer, Chief at Anjengo to Select Committee, Madras. Copy. Regarding the King of Travancore, and enclosing a letter from the same.
13, pp. 95-96 (32 x 19.5 cm.). List of Letters in the Country Correspondence, Fort St. George, with their dates from No. 415, Nov. 10th 1757, to No. 454, Dec. 28th.
14, pp. 97-107 (32 x 19.5 cm.). Extracts from the Select Committee Consultations, regarding Madura and Tinnevilly, 1757. Copy. Correspondence with Muhammad Yusuf, Mahfuz Khan, and Tittarappa Mudali.
15, pp. 109-121 (31.5 x 19.5 cm.). Extracts from the Select Committee Consultations, regarding Salabat Jung, 1757. Correspondence with Balaventurow, Morareyrow, Washadava Punt, and a fragment entitled the Morratoe Negotiation.
16, pp. 123-125 (32 x 20.5 cm.). Proceedings of a Court of Enquiry held at Trichinopoly by the officers of the Garrison, 28th Dec. 1757, on the subject of a conspiracy by the French prisoners. Apparently in Caillaud's handwriting. The chief culprit was Laforge, "commonly called the Surgeon."
17, p. 131 (31.7x19.5 cm.). An Account of the Yearly Revenues belonging to the Countries dependant on Trichinopoly as farmed for the year 1757. Copy. The total amount is Rs. 291,700.
18, pp. 132-140 (36.5 x 24 cm.). Bengal Presidency, their Account with Fort St. George, and Fort St George, their Account with Bengal, to explain monies sent in this year [1757-1758] from Bengal. Copy.
19, pp. 141-163 (25.5 x 9.5 cm.) Index of Proper Names, Occurring in the letters of Delhi, Decan, Morratoes, entered in Vol. 42 of my (Orme's) bound Manuscripts from page 90 to the end of the volume. This latter part contains the letter from 1756, Nov., to about the same period in the next year, and the Index may become useful in finding out what is some obscure name. I [Orme] bind it in 1757. Copy.
From this heading it would appear that some at least of the volumes of this series were bound before 1757. ie., before Orme returned finally from India, but as several contain papers of a later date, it is impossible to say which of them were so bound.
