p. 1. Contents.
, pp. 7-83 (25 x 19 cm.). Journal of what pass'd at Patna when the English were cut off there by [Kasim Ali Khan], from the 23rd June to October 6th 1763. Probably a copy. Copied in VII. 1, where it is said to have been written by "an eye witness and an unhappy sufferer." There are numerous copies of this paper, e.g. :- (1) Copy in the Govt. of India Records, Calcutta, printed by the Rev. W. K. Firminger in his Diaries of Three Surgeons of Patna. (2) Add. Mss. 29209. (3) India Office, (a) Patna Factory Records, No. 18; ( b) Home Misc., No. 456D. In these two copies the MS. is definitely ascribed to Mr. William Anderson, Surgeon to the Army. See 21. 12 above. N.B. A letter from Dr. Anderson to Dr. Davidson, written just before he was murdered, was printed in the European Magazine, Feb, 1787. See Crawford's Indian Medical Service, I. 190.
, pp. 87-95 (29 x 18.5 cm.). Part of a Journal kept by General R. Smith of his passage up the Ganges, from the 3rd April to the 6 July 1765. Original.
, pp. 97-117 (15.5 x 17 cm.). Col. Morgan's Journal from Hagipore to Benares, from the 3rd November to 7th December 1766. Original.
, pp. 121-146 (32 x 20 cm.). Journal of the Campaign beyond Lucknow from the 8th of March to the 12th May 1766. Copy. There appears to be some mistake about the date (e.g., Lieut.-Colonel Goddard is mentioned, but Goddard was not made Lieut.-Colonel until 1768-see Dodwell and Miles), and apparently this paper is the Journal of Sir Robert Barker, Commander-in-Chief, 1773. (See Lieutenant F. G. Cardew's Sketch of the Services of the Bengal Native Army, p. 38.)
