(1). ff. 1-2. Alan Cohen, ‘Blues / A Birthday Piece for Cor’. Dated '6/5/56'. Short piano piece dedicated to Cornelius Cardew.
(2). ff. 3-4. Peter Maxwell Davies, ‘Two 14th cent. Motets on St Edmund’. 3- and 4-part motet ‘Deus tuorum militum’, neatly copied. Annotation reads: ‘To the medieval composer it does not matter that the chant cannot be heard from without. To him it is indeed true that ‘heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter’. The main point is that the chant exists in the music. It provides the sacred ground on which the human mind can erect its rational artifices’.
(3). ff. 5-8. Luigi Nono, arr. Richard Rodney Bennett, piano reduction of ‘Canti per Tredici’. Some structural annotations included in ink, such as the workings of the mirror form.
