Three map sheets titled Ladysmith, Upper Tugela and Pietermaritzburg West in western Natal. Sheets folded in covers bearing the title 'Transvaal (Major Jackson's Series)'. Sheets portray hydrology, relief by occasional spot heights and form lines, roads and tracks, railways, telegraph and telephone lines, farm boundaries and place names. Compiled in 1901 by the Field Intelligence Department using material from the Surveyor-General Transvaal and the Surveyor-General Natal under the direction of Major H.M. Jackson R.E. Manuscript additions by Lieutenant R.Gordon-Finlayson R.E, 1904.
The covers (21 x 14cm or smaller) bear manuscript notes explaining that the sheets accompany reports by Lieutenant R. Gordon-Finlayson dated 5.1.04 (sheets 38A and 38D) and 14.2.04 (sheet 38B). Printed by the Government Printing Works, Pretoria.
Unannotated copies of the Jackson Maps series are filed at Maps 67075.(88.), although these particular editions are not held.
