- Title:
- Chapple Bequest to D'Oyly Carte Archive: Miscellaneous Items (1950s-1960s)
- Scope & Content:
-
Four items:
- Kathleen Anderson, 'Interval or Souvenirs of a Savoyard'. Typescript (pp. 1-21, ending mid-sentence, perhaps lacking a final sheet). Signed by Anderson, sent to Bridget D'Oyly Carte 2 Apr 1951. A memoir of her career with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company.
- 'Chapel of the Savoy: Memorial Windows Restored'. Cutting from Church of England News, 19 Sep 1952. Replacement of stained glass windows damaged in the bombing of November 1940. 'The altar window was given by His Majesty King George VI, Duke of Lancaster, to replace that one which was presented by Queen Victoria and destroyed by enemy action'.
- Typed letter signed, Peter Goffin to Bridget D'Oyly Carte, 'Spring 1956'. 3 sheets. Discusses 're-designing' Patience: 'In previous productions, as you know, Bunthorne and Grosvenor have both appeared in much the same costume - derived from Max Beerbohm's cartoon of Oscar Wilde. This lack of distinction in the appearance of the two characters has always puzzled me, since each of them represents a different "aesthetic" type.'
- Savoy Hotel Christmas card [1966]. Unused, showing on the front an etching by James McNeil Whistler of the scaffolding for the Savoy Hotel. Inside, a printed annotation in blue ink (in the hand of Ruperyt D'Oyly Carte) giving details of the etching, including the date 1888 (however, the date for the etching in the University of Glasgow Catalogue Raisoné is 1887).
