A business letter, apparently concerning the distribution of a commodity, presumably oil, measured in metretai. Sender and addressee are unknown, due to the loss of the top portion of the papyrus and to the absence of address on the back; the text suggests it is a letter sent by a superior to a subordinate.

Lower portion of a dark-brown papyrus sheet, the top of which is missing; written across the fibres, on one side only. Bottom and side margins are extant. Within the preserved portion, the upper left margin is lost. Mounted in a glass frame.

Dimensions: 109 x 112 mm. Housed in a glass case measuring 150 x 165 mm.
Script: Rather expert but inelegant hand, slightly sloping to the right and with several ligatures; in correspondence of emperor’s titulature (lines 9-10), the writing becomes faster and more cursive. - Custodial History:

Provenance: Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 2103-2239 from Bernard Pyne Grenfell (b. 1869, d. 1926) in May 1920.
