File of papers belonging Terence Armstrong, Honorary Secretary of the Haylukt Society, relating to the project to publish a modern edition of the Journals of Captain Cook's Voyages. File relates to the publishing of the fourth volume, which appeared as The Life of Captain James Cook by J.C. Beaglehole (1974), published by A and C Black and in a separate edition for the Hakluyt Society.
Correspondence with Terence Armstrong in relation to the publishing of Cook IV, later The Life of Cook, including correspondence with J.D. Newth at Adam and Charles Black. Includes copies of correspondence from Eila Campbell regarding the decision to replace Cook IV with The Life of Cook. Other correspondents include: Gilbert Lathwaite, including letters regarding Beaglehole's copyright ; Lord Rennell; S. Easton, Robert Maclehose & Co; Cambridge University Press; John Maggs, Maggs Bros Ltd; Helen Wallis regarding James King's manuscript journal of the Discovery; Edmond de Beer; Sir John Killick, British Embassy Moscow; Glyn Williams; Commander David Waters, National Maritime Museum; John D. McIntosh, The University of British Columbia
Also correspondence relating to the preparation and publication of the pamphlet 'Cook and the Russians: an addendum to the Hakluyt Society's edition of the voyage of the Resolution and Discovery, 1776-1780', with drafts of pamphlet and copy of printed pamphlet. Includes correspondence with Dr Paul Putz, regarding his translations of the documents relating to Cook and Kamchatka. Also additional correspondence relating to Dr Yakov M. Svet and the translation of Cook's Voyages into Russian.
File also includes copy of pamphlet 'Addenda and Corrigenda to Volume I: The Voyage of the Endeavour 1768-1771' (1968).
