(1). 'A Merry Xmas'. A small booklet (150 x 100 mm) written, drawn and made by Lucas D'Oyly Carte. Three bifolia sewn at the centre fold with blue thread. 'Love to Geoffrey. Love to Auntie. Love to Grandfather. Love to Uncle Henry. From Lucas.' [1880s?].
(2). The following items:
- Small sheet of Savoy notepaper. Notes (in pencil) in the hand of Bridget D'Oyly Carte recording details of a book by E. F. Benson, Dodo: A Detail of the Day (Eleventh Edition 1894). Publisher: Methuen & Co.
- A single sheet, dated '1893/Oxford', on which Lucas's D'Oyly Carte's name is written signature (does not match the signature in the letter to his brother below).
- October 1893. Methuen and Co printed booklet: 'A List of New Books' (unmarked).
- Latin notes in manuscript (1 sheet, photographic copy).
- Autograph letter from Lucas [D'Oyly Carte] to Rupert [D'Oyly Carte]. 9 January 1907, on Kelling Sanatorium letterhead (Lucas died 18 January 1907).
(3). Six newspaper cuttings on the death and theWill of Lucas D'Oyly Carte. Includes a letter (23 January) to The Daily Telegraph from Helen D'Oyly Carte referring (in passing) to 'a family bereavement that prevented my attending the Savoy Theatre last night' but is primarily about the success of 'the first two operas of the revival'.
(4). Correspondence (1902-1968) between solicitors and Lucas, Rupert and Bridget D'Oyly regarding ground rents etc. for properties (Eltham).
(5) Correspondence (1953) concerning a Garden Party (3 Sep) at Kelling Sanatorium to commemorate its 50th anniversary. Includes an invitation to Bridget D'Oyly Carte. A letter from the Secretary (15 Aug 1953) provides information about Lucas D'Oyly Carte as a former patient, who was buried in Kelling Churchyard (23 January 1907).
(6). A letter (15 Mar 1950) from Deborah M. Samson (daughter of the head gardener at Kelling Sanatorium) to Bridget D'Oyly Carte seeking financial/accommodation assistance. Together with several related letters to establish the veracity of the letter, and Bridget D'Oyly Carte's reply to Samson.
(7). A Deed of Trust (1925), signed by Rupert D'Oyly Carte, regarding an Annuity in respect of Mrs Louisa Tyce (née Brett) of Kelling Sanatorium, who cared for Lucas D'Oyly Carte. Subsequent correspondence (1956), and notes made by Bridget D'Oyly Carte. Includes a photograph (1920) of Tyce's two young daughters.
(8). Four miscellaneous letters:
- 3 Nov 1927. Letter to Rupert D'Oyly Carte regarding the upkeep of the grave of Lucas D'Oyly Carte.
- 1 Jan 1947. Letter to Rupert D'Oyly Carte from A. E. Warren who has in his possession of copy of Gulliver's Travels inscribed (1879) to Lucas D'Oyly Carte.
- 6 Nov 1949. Letter to Bridget D'Oyly Carte from C. Harrison Vickers: 'I knew quite well Mr D'Oyly Carte who was in Kelling Sanatorium when my young son was [there]'.
- 17 Dec 1957. Typed letter signed to Bridget D'Oyly Carte from 'Aunt Nancy' with thanks for a Christmas card: 'It reminds me of your Uncle Lucas. He had the most delightful mind, really brilliant, and quite unique; and for some reason the originality of this card makes him very vivid to me.'
