Solicitor's letters to Rupert D'Oyly Carte regarding Trust Fund deriving from the Estate of his grandfather, William Prowse.
The letters begin (1 March 1898): 'I do not know whether you are aware that when your brother [Lucas] came of age, I explained to him that the position was as follows, but it may be useful to repeat it. Your interests under you Grandfather's Will have to remain in Trust,at all events until you attain the age of 28, but under the Settlement of 1854 (which you will see is separately listed) you are entitled to receive the capital at 21. Your brother agreed with me at the time that it was not desirable to break into the Trusts of this Settlement, because he would have to find re-investments and might lose income by doing so, and if you take the same view I think it would be convenient. But I want you to understand if you wish to have the Capital raised out, you are entitled to have it [....] When you brother came of age, I arranged to send him a cheque for £125 every quarter (£500 a year) and to let him have an account of any surplus at the end of each year. I would suggest the same arrangement for yourself.'
