Rectangular, complete papyrus sheet, writing on one side only, along the fibres. A sheet-join runs through the papyrus vertically. The lower part of the bottom text is heavily abraded. Mounted in glass on cardboard.

Papyrus 1965(a-d), Papyrus 1961(a-c) and Papyrus 1971 are crown-tax receipts of the same format, all written 198–199 CE. They were most likely part of an archive in antiquity. Several tax-payers of this archive may be listed in P.Hamb. IV 274 & 275 (198 CE) sometimes paying the exact same amounts as attested in the tax-receipts.
