Vol. XXX. Private letters from Mr Pitt, Lord Bute, and other English Ministers to Mr (subsequent by Sir Andrew) Mitchell, 1756-1766.
1. From Mr Pitt to Mr Mitchell, (P[ropria]. M[anu].). Regretting that the shortness of Mr Mitchell’s stay in Town will prevent his (Mr Pitt) having the satisfaction of seeing him. Bond Street, Friday morning, [1756]. Folio 1.
2. From the same to the same (P[ropria]. M[anu].). Is unable to advise Mr Mitchell on the subject of his mission to Berlin, but will be glad to see him for half an hour. Friday night. Folio 2.
3. From the same to the same. (Private, P[ropria]. M[anu].). Sentiments of veneration and zeal for the King of Prussia. Whitehall, 31st March, 1757. Folio 3.
4. From the same to the same. (Private P[ropria]. M[anu].). Pleasure taken by the King in granting the Pardon of Lord Marshal. Attachment of Mr Pitt to his Prussian Majesty. The pecuniary succours to Prussia, the subsidy to the Landgrave with 19,000 Hessians, all passed the Committee. Whitehall, 26th June, 1759. Folio 5.
5. From the same to the same. (P[ropria]. M[anu].). Transactions with respect to the Porte. Repetition of sentiments towards the King of Prussia. Whenever peace comes under consideration “no ‘Peace of Utrecht’ shall again stain the Annals of England”. Whitehall, 12th June, 1759. Folio 7.
6. From the same to the same. (Private P[ropria]. M[anu].). Universal joy of the Nation at the King of Prussia’s successes. Appearance and and manner of Mr Carcėy. Thanks for the volume of Poetry sent by Mr Mitchell. September 9th 1760. Folio 9.
7. From the same to the same. (P[ropria]. M[anu].). A friendly letter, with allusion to some circumstances not mentioned. An interview is appointed. Hayes, 13th April, 1766. Folio 11.
8. From the Earl of Bute to the same. (P[ropria]. M[anu].). Expressive of friendship for Mr Mitchell, and attachment to the King of Prussia. Whitehall, 27th March, 1761. Folio 13.
9. From Mr Grenville to the same. (Private (P[ropria]. M[anu].). The King is perfectly satisfied with the reasons alleged by Mr Mitchell for not following the King of Prussia into the field. Assurances of personal regard. Great George Street, 2nd August, 1762. Folio 15.
10. From the Earl of Halifax to the same. (P[ropria]. M[anu].). A friendly letter, in reply to one of Mr Mitchell’s. Inquiries after his health. Great George Street, 31st May, 1763. Folio 17.
11. From the Earl of Sandwich to the same. (P[ropria]. M[anu].). The King gives Mr Mitchell permission, on account of his ill health, to try the waters, either on the Continent or in England. Mr Mitchell is advised not to leave Berlin until a new Prussian Minister at London is appointed. Bills of Extra-Extraordinaries. Whitehall, 22nd May, 1764. Folio 19.
12. From the same to the same. (Private P[ropria]. M[anu].). The King approves of Mr Mitchell’s conduct. Monsr Mitchell has received his recredentials, but no successor yet appointed. The Bills of Extraordinaries are allowed. Whitehall, 12th July, 1764. Folio 21.
13. From Mr Conway to the same. The intended interview of the Emperor and King of Prussia makes a great noise. Changes in the Administration. Remarks on Prince Ferdinand’s quitting the King of Prussia’s service. London, 1st August, 1766. Folio 23.
