Paper, in quarto, folio 37, XVII century.
An account in Italian by Gio. Francesco Gratiani, of the order of Servites at Perugia, or his proceedings at Venice, with remarks on the lives of Fra Paolo, Fra Fulgentio, one of the seven theologians, Fra Antonio da Viterbo, secretary to Fra Paolo, and of the Venetian nobility; addressed to Pope Paul V.
The author, a theological student at Padua, received orders from Fra Bernardo, also a Servite of Perugia, the secretary of Cardinal Borghese, nephew of Paul V to proceed to Venice, in order to ascertain from Fra Antonio if Fra Paolo were writing ‘de vitis Pontificum et de censuris’, and, if possible, to induce him to quit Fra Paolo’s service. For this mission he appears to have been selected on account of his being foster brother to Fra Antonio. He was imprisoned by command of the Venetian Senate. In the latter part of his work he brings the most horrible charges of immorality and debauchery against Fra Paolo, Fra Fulgentio, Fra Antionio and the Venetian nobility.
The work is not named by Oldini nor by Oddi in their accounts of the authors of Perugia, neither is it included in the list of works respecting the Interdict given in Canaye, Lettres et Ambassades, volume 3. It has probably never been printed.
