Third Will of Dryton (P.Dryton 3, P.Lond. III 687 descr., TM 268), Petition (P.Dryton 31, P.Lond. III 687 descr., TM 286), and Ptolemaic Fragments (P.Lond. III 687 descr., TM 280)
- Scope & Content:
-
Upper left fragment (A) + Three lower fragments at the right (E) (P.Dryton 3, P.Lond. III 687 descr., TM 268): Fragments preserving the beginning and end of the first column of a copy of the second will of Dryton, drawn up in the office of the notary in Pathyris. Further portions of this papyrus are BL Papyrus 640 and a papyrus in Paris (P.Bouriant 46), which preserve the second column. Dated to 29 June 126 BC.
Upper fragment in the middle (B) (P.Dryton 31, P.Lond. III 687 descr., TM 286): Fragment of the same papyrus as Papyrus 686F, a papyrus in the John Rylands Library inventoried as no. 67, and a papyrus in Heidelberg, inventoried as 1301. They are part of a petition, presumably by Dryton, addressed to the Hermias, the financial officer (epimeletes), concerning some financial matter involving a big sum of money due, and the purchase of some plots by Esthladas, son of Dryton. The petition was preceded by another text, of which only one line remains, presumably a bank-diagraphe, in which the property sold was described. Dated between 140 and 130 BC.
Upper right fragment (C) (P.Lond. III 687descr., TM 280): Fragment of a Ptolemaic document. Unpublished.
Lower left fragment (D) (P.Lond. III 687descr., TM 280): Fragment containing the lower portion of a column with a Ptolemaic account, containing names and figures. Unpublished.
