Map bears the inscription 'This Newly constructed and extended Map of India from the Latest Surveys of the best Authorities, Published principally for the use of Officers of the Army in India, is respectfully Inscribed to Major General Sir John Malcolm, G.C.B., K.L.S. &c.'
Originally a single sheet, deterioration has caused splitting into 4 quarters. Portrays hydrology, relief by hachures, roads, settlements, place names, military stations, courts, collectorates and commercial residences; also shows British possessions and independent states, and includes a sheet history. An inset (54 x 43cm) depicts the Birman Empire at a scale of approximately 1:3,000,000.
Four remnants (5 x 7cm or smaller) bearing previous reference numbers and the publication date are included in an archival pocket.
An extended and corrected edition of this map dated 1842 is filed at Maps 57.b.9.
