(1). A number of detached pages from Rupert D'Oyly Carte's copy of Pennell and Pennell, The Life of James McNeill Whistler (2 vols., 1908), both front fly-leaves signed by Rupert D'Oyly Carte (1909). The detached pages are:
- Vol. I: fly-leaf, signed 'R. D'Oyly Carte 1909'; frontispiece portrait of Whistler as a boy; title-page; Preface; and pp. 219-28;
- Vol. II: fly-leaf, signed 'R. D'Oyly Carte 1909'; frontispiece portrait; title-page; pp. 33-46; and plate 'Chelsea Wharf'.
An undated autograph letter [1888] from Whistler to Richard D'Oyly Carte is attached (folded) to Vol. I flyleaf, referring to the interior decoration of D'Oyly Carte's residence at 4 Adelphi Terrace (see biography, Vol. I, p. 220) and to the proposed decoration of the new Savoy Hotel: 'I must come down and carry off plans etc. of the Savoy Hotel'. See biography, Vol.. II, pp. 36-8, for Whistler and Helen D'Oyly Carte. Rupert D'Oyly Carte has annotated Whistler's letter in blue ink at the head, identifying it, and added a further explanatory annotation in pencil on the fly-leaf below the attached letter. The letter is signed with Whistler's characteristic butterfly signature.
(2). 'Notes of Rupert D'Oyly Carte on Whistler' (1 folio, typed carbon).
(3). Autograph notes in Rupert D'Oyly Carte's hand:
- about his father (Richard D'Oyly Carte), his father's friends and associates, and his father's wife, Helen;
- family chronology 1854: pencil notes made by Rupert (from a diary?), written on the verso of a printed announcement of the issue of Mortgage Debenture Stock, 24 Nov 1933.
