The first of three volumes which contain watercolours of Chinese flowers, plants and fruits by an unknown Chinese artists from Xiamen, known to Europeans at the time as Emuy or Amoy. Drawings of costumes that were also contained in this volume, were transferred to the British Museum Department of Prints and Drawings, 10 March 1928.
The volume consists of 793 individual drawings which have been stuck down onto larger pages (235 folios). The foliation of this volume refers to the individual drawings, not the pages on which they have been placed. Often there are many drawings stuck to a single page. The pages are not numbered.

The volume is stated to have been sent by Mr [James] Cunningham to Mr [James] Petiver.
The catalogue of additions records 789 drawings in this volume. However, there is evidence that items were added and subtracted from the volume since this entry was written: folios previously numbered: 21,22,157, 228, 231, 247, 324, 340, 341, 358, 359, 363, 425, 651 and 652 were extracted and transferred to the Department of Prints and Drawings on the 10/03/1928. However, the volume has been refoliated to cover these changes in 1928 and the total items given is 793. Upon counting the items in the volume, 793 is found to be the correct figure.
