2, pp. 5-76 (32.5 x 19.5 cm.). Tellicherry Diary from the 26th Dec. 1724 to the 14th August 1725. Consultations of the Council at Tellicherry.
3, pp. 103-145 (32.5 x20 cm.). Relation of the Massacre of the English Merchants at Judda, 6th June 1727. Copies of (1) A relation given by the people of Ally Rajah's ship, who arrived at Cannanore this evening in forty two days from Juddah, leaving it the 30th of July 1727. Dated the 11th Sept. 1727. (2) Narrative of the Serwan of Ally Rajah's Juddah Ship, dated 15th Sept. 1727. (3) A letter, dated Juddah, 22 June 1727, from Charles Gray to Constantinople "to be opened by the English gentlemen." This letter gives the names of the Englishmen murdered as Thomas Hill, Supercargo; William Morcom, Purser, and Edmund MCriarty, gunner of the ship Margaret (of which Gray was Master), and Captain Alexander Dalgleish and Robert Frankland, Supercargo, of a Bengal ship, the Prince George. The writer says that the whole affair was a sudden outbreak due to a mistake of the mob, and that the Bashaw (Basha or Pasha) had done his best. (4) Translation of a letter, dated 22 June 1727, from Abu Buker, Bashaw of Juddah, addressed to the English Chief at Mocha. The Bashaw laid the blame on the cruelty of the English to the Mussulman sailors on the ships, and the fanatical excitement of the mob. He actually caused all the property stolen by the mob to be returned. (5) Reply from Mr. Francis Dickinson to the Bashaw, dated Mocha 10th July 1727, calling upon him to do justice to the English. (6) A n account of the massacre of Mr. Thomas Hill, Mr. Robert Frankland, &c., at Juddah in June Or July, by Mr. Bonnell at Surat. In this it is stated that the deaths of the Lascars, which had excited the mob, were due to these men having eaten a large (poisonous) fish which they had caught. (7) Letter from Mr. John Fullarton [Clerk of the Margaret] to the Honble. Henry Frankland, Esq., &c., Owners of the ship King George, dated Juddah 8 Aug. 1727. In this letter the date of the massacre is given as the 6th June, and another person, Richard Banoby (1), is mentioned as having been murdered, as also three Portugueze. (8) The Worshipfull John Courtney, Esq., Chief of Surat, his relation of the Massacre at Juddah, dated Sept. the 21st 1727. (9) Letter from the President and Council, Fort William, to Mr. Edward Carteret and Capt. Charles Boddam, Supra-Cargoes of the "Walpole," dated Fort William the 29th Dec. 1727, with instructions to go to Jeddah, to demand restitution of the Prince George and Margaret. and, if this cannot be obtained peaceably, to blockade the port.
N.B. This volume is described in the 1811 Catalogue as "Mr. Adams, Vol. V." The ship Margaret belonged to Mr. Robert Adams, at this time Chief of Tellicherry.
