I will at all times endeavour to conciliate him to you, but I will at all times act against him with as much vigour as is in his own character, whenever I think he is moving against you."

Apparently the work referred to is a part of the Code of Gentoo Laws Or Ordinations of the Pandits from a Persian Translation, made from the Original written in the Sanskrit Language, sent by Warren Hastings to the Court of Directors, with a letter dated Fort William, 27 March 1755, and printed in London 1776. It was the work of Nathaniel Brassey Halhed.
