Privately printed edition (printed at the Chiswick Press, 1897) of The Liars by Henry Arthur Jones. 'An original comedy in four Acts'. Produced at the Criterion Theatre, 6 Oct 1897. The list of characters has been annotated by Jones in black ink with the names of the actors. The text of the play is unmarked.
Bookplate of Richard D'Oyly Carte on inside front board. Inscribed by the author to Carte, 'faithfully yours'.

- at the front: black and white reproduction of a portrait of Jones (by Hugh G. Riviere); two obituaries, Richard D'Oyly Carte (1901);
- at the back: folded cutting from The Illustrated London News (9 Oct 1897), a drawing of the cast of the play on stage at The Criterion; printed photograph of 'Henry Arthur Jones at 74'; an unattached page from The Strand Magazine (no date) summarising Jones's career including four engraved portraits of Jones aged 13, 19, 32, and 40 (on the verso, a summary of the life of Arthur W. Pinero, also including four engraved portraits).
Note: there is a pencil annotation at the front of the volume stating that there is within, loosely inserted, an autograph letter from Jones to Sir Leslie Ward with sketches of Ward on the back of the letter. However, this letter is no longer present in the book.
