- Title:
- Fredric Woodbridge Wilson Collection: Savoy Theatre Stage Manager's Day Book
- Scope & Content:
-
Gold-blocked on the spine: 'Savoy Theatre / Stage Manager's Bay Book'. Date at the foot of the spine: '1893-4'.
One day per page, beginning 14 February 1893. Final entry: 9 July 1894. The entries record performances given on each day, including the precise timings for 'curtain up' and 'curtain down', and a statement about the success of the performance (nearly always: 'The performance was generally satisfactory'). The entries also record rehearsals and absences through illness, as well as other occasional details concerning performances.
The entries, all in black ink, are not signed but are presumably in the hand of W. H. Seymour, Stage Manager. Each page has been initialled 'CH'(?) in another hand at the foot, usually in pencil.
Entries begin with performances of Haddon Hall, followed by: Jane Annie (first performance 13 May 1893); Utopia, Limited (first performance 7 Oct 1893); Mirette (first performance 3 July 1984).
