The map bears the note 'A Copy of Channel Creek [a distributary of the Hooghly River] from George’s Point to the Sea, taken from Mr. Lacam’s Survey Plan [dated 1770]. Shewing how far it differs from what the Channel is at present, in as much as the Soundings and judgment of the Gentlemen of the Deputation could determine, between the 4th and 15th of October 1788. The Copy is drawn in Black, The present state of the Channel is done in Red.' Another, shortened, version of this note appears on the verso.
Portrays hydrology (with an emphasis on sand banks), soundings, vegetation, settlement (including individual buildings), harbour areas, lighthouses and place names, and includes topographical notes.
