Recto: Document, mostly illegible (Unpublished). At the bottom, written upside down in relation to the text, there is the address of the text on the verso.
Verso (SB III 6262, TM 31055): Letter of Thonis addressed to his father Arion. The boy inquires why Arion has not replied to any of his earlier letters and has failed to visit him; he mentions his teacher, who also wants to see him, as he is eager to continue offering lessons to the boy. Greetings follow and a reminder not to forget about the pigeons was added as a postscript between the lines. The address is on the other side.

- Sheet of papyrus cut out from a larger piece, bearing writing on both sides. The text on the front runs along the fibres and is almost illegible because of the dark stains and the salts deposited on the surface. Only the upper margin survives. The text on the verso is complete; some words were erased and corrected. The surface is occasionally damaged; horizontal folding lines are visible. All margins are extant, the side margins being minimal. The papyrus is mounted in a glass case.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: 166 x 100 mm; housed in a glass case measuring 220 x 145 mm.
Script: Recto: Sloping hand of medium size, with some detached letters; Verso: Clear and practised hand of good size, somewhat compressed at the end of the lines, mostly displaying detached letters; some ligatured sequences occur. Lines tend to slightly slant upwards.

Provenance: Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 1545-1753 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 8 December 1906.
