Scope & Content:

Depicts the course of the River Ganges and its major tributaries in north-eastern India. Comprises 3 sheets as follows (India Office map catalogue):

X/482/1 Sheet No. 1. Portions of Rivers Gunduck, Gogra, and Ganges, from the limits of District Goruckpoor, N[orth].West].P[rovinces]. on the West, to the city of Patna on the East. 1863 to 1865.

X/482/2 Sheet No. 2. Portion of Ganges River, 1865 to ’67. (Continuation from Patna to Rajmahal.)

X/482/3 Sheet No. 3. Portions of Rivers Ganges and Jumoona. 1867 to ’69. (Continuation from Rajmahal to Goalundo.)

Portrays hydrology including sands, roads, railways, settlements, place names, ghats, administrative boundaries, triangulation stations with heights and a list of the stations of the Great Triangulation together with their coordinates.

Surveyed by Captain W.J. Stewart; compiled under the direction of Colonel D.C. Vanrenen; projection by F.W. Kelly; drawn and printed by S. Peer Buksh and Golam Nubee; photozincographed by Lieutenant J. Waterhouse; published under the direction of Colonel H.L. Thuillier, Surveyor General, India.
