The Mandinka Ajami manuscript in this collection deals with the founding of the present-day town of Darsilami-Pakao, and provides the names of successive village chiefs and Imams. The manuscript talks about how Karim Issiyaka Drame founded the village when his brother, Kounou Sandeng Drame, told him about a dream he had about the place when he was resting there after a long day of hunting. Issiyaka decided to make his brother’s dream a reality by founding the village in 1715. The document also provides information about other people involved in the founding of the village, including local elders and Ibrahima Dianko and Coumba Sara Issiyaka, who first settled in different parts of the village.
Custodial history: The owner inherited it from his father, Arfang Karamba Drame (1906-1984), who was born and raised in Darsilami-Pakao, where he received his Islamic education. He served as a scholar and Quranic teacher until his death in 1984.
