- Title:
- Margaret Forster: Diary of an Ordinary Woman War Time Letters (part 1)
- Scope & Content:
-
Letters between two sisters, Dorothy and Dickie, but also from several men, including two Dutch airmen, Bill (RAF), a Jimmy who becomes her husband, plus a few other from other women friends, 1939-1946.
The letters were purchased from a dealer in the Lake District and used by Margaret Forster for Diary of An Ordinary Woman. Some white empty envelopes included. They were added by Foster - as it's clear from her notes (see for example letter no 27). Numbers in pencil on the letters are written by Forster, as are the notes in red on bits of white envelopes. The letters have been left in the order found (which is not numerical).
The file also includes Forster's manuscript list of the letters and her notes on the letters.
