(1). Letters from Brown to Hodgkiss (annotated with the date of reply):
- 3 Apr 1981. Typed letter.
- 16 Apr 1981. Typed letter: 're MASKER - your proposal certainly needs some consideration, so herewith enclosed the mss for further deliberation. I should point out (in mitigation?) that the work is already typeset - typeset to an a5 size, as per the enclosed.' See (2) below.
- 10 June [1981]. Typed letter (3 sheets).
- 26 Oct 1981 (date of reply). Typed letter.
- 10 Jan 1982. Typed letter: 'Stencils should be done by Jan end and on their way. What about the cover?'
- 12 Feb 1982. Typed letter, enclosing three additional poems for the 'Lost Profile' sequence of the book: 'Fat Man in the Temple'; 'La Habañera'; 'The Carousel in the Rye'.
- 1 Mar 1982. Typed letter, annotated by Hodgkiss: 'corrected proof sent 6/3/82'.
- 'Friday 13th' [month and year not indicated]: 'I received your letter by Mottram-mail. All the conditions seem set and very fair re-Masker.'
- Undated autograph letter: 'Enclosed, at last, the stencils for MASKER'.
- Undated typed letter: 'herewith the stencils'.
- Undated typed letter [1982] from Jenny Stannard to Hodgkiss: 'I'm really not concerned with the cover credit, and had I known about it I would have told you not to worry about including the credit slip'.
(2). Text as submitted, A5 format with red covers, originally spiral-bound. With black and white photocopied images adhered to front and back covers: front cover image as published across front and back; back cover image not subsequently used. 44 folios including covers and two blank pink sheets at the front.
(3). Coverdesign. Three black and white prints of the cover photograph (by Jenny Stannard), each approx. 220 x 300 mm. One of the prints incorporates 'paul brown' and 'MASKER'. With a single sheet showing book cover design drawn in pencil.
(4). Various items:
- Copyright page drafts;
- a sheet outlining Masker publishing history;
- Contents page from the magazine Heretic (1981), ed. Brown;
- two copies of the printed title-page of Masker;
- an autograph note (6 Jun 1982) from Brown to Hodgkiss enclosing an additional poem ('Obituary for Mr. E') as four unique holographs signed and numbered 7/10, 8/10, 9/10 and 10/10. Also, a typed version of the poem 'La Habañera', annotated: 'to be used as holograph material?'
