(1). Seven autograph letters from Opal Nations to Peter Hodgkiss:
- 25 Jul 1977. Aerogramme, from Barton, Vermont. Pleased to receive Poetry Information (17) in which his interview appears. Refers to (limited) distribution outlets in Canada ('a very nationalistic country'). 'Would love to do a chap-book with you and "Galloping Dog" - can send 40 pages of texts/prose pieces (absurdist/instructional texts). Will get it together & send off in a week or so.'
- 14 Nov 1977, from Toronto. 'We're moving down to "Kensington Market" in Toronto, a real lively Portuguese area [...] Will be back in Vermont at Xmas. Still plan on coming to England next spring if I can get readings.'
- 28 Jul [1978]. Aerogramme, from Barton, Vermont. General comments on poets and small presses. Thomas A. Clark and George MacBeth have both given readings in Toronto, 'and Bob Cobbing will be in Canada soon for the sound poetry festival'.
- 8 Sep [1978]. 'Well, Pete, I don't write poetry, so what I suggest, if it's alright with you, is for you to take out all you don't want from the mss and replace these with the enclosed texts. I think you'll like them, pretty funny conceptual pieces which try to capture the Victorian mores of absurdity-propriety.'
- 11 Sep [1978], from Toronto. Refers to potential readings in UK later in the year.
- 16 Oct [1978], from Toronto. 'Will be in England on Xmas day (1978) for 2 weeks, hope to get readings to cover the trip (at ICA, Musicians Collective and Public House Bookshop in Brighton) but nothing is confirmed [...] Roger Ely is with me at the moment'.
- 14 Dec [1978], from Toronto. '"A pen, Some Paper" is a long text published by Alta at Shameless Hussie - quite correct but you have "A Pen, Paper and Some Dreams" which is Part 2 and this was published last spring in Montreal by Atropos Press in a limited chapbook edition of 50 copies. So I don't think it matters 'cause most haven't seen it. The other shorter works, you can be assured, have not reached a broad audience, certainly not in England.'
(2). Typed manuscript, including draft contents page and, at the back, draft biographical information.
(3). Typed poem not included in the book: 'How to Arrest Time', from the 'How To' Series.
(4). Publication. Opal Nations, A Pen, Some Paper, Many Dreams & Other Eye Movements. Galloping Dog Press: Swansea, 1979.
