A treatise on music by Abū Manṣūr al-Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad Ibn Zaylah ( أبو منصور الحسين بن محمد بن زيلة, d. 440/1048-49), a disciple of Ibn Sīnā (ابن سينا, latinised as Avicenna, 980-1037). It deals with the definitions of music, notes, and their relationships; rhythm; the composition of melodies; and instruments.
The present copy was completed on the first of Jumādá I 1073/12 Dec 1662 and collated in the city of Kashmir (Srinagar), 'the heart-pleasing' (دلپذير) on 25 Muḥarram 1074/29 August 1663 (see colophon, f. 236v, transcribed below).

كتاب الكافي في الموسيقي لأبي منصور بن زيلة قال الشيخ أبو منصور الحسين بن محمد بن بن (!) عمر
بن زيلة علم الموسيقي يشتمل على بحثين أحدهما البحث عن أحوال النغم من حيث يأتلف ويتنافر
والثاني البحث عن مقادير الأزمنة المتخللة بين النغم ويسمى علم الإيقاع فيحصل من هذين البحثين
معرفة تأليف اللحنى...

...ويرفع الأصبع عن الثقب
التي تقارب تلك النغم إلى حد يخرج منه تلك النغم التي تحتاج اليها فيوجد سائر النغم في هذه
الحيلة وهذا التدبير
