- (1.) 'Postcards from Spain', for solo guitar; 1995. Correspondence between Musgrave and Michael Lorimer (performer for whom the piece was written), Sam Dorsey (president of the commissioning organisation) and Julian Bream (to whom Musgrave sent a copy of the composition); 1994–1996. Score; 1995.
- (2.) 'From Spring to Spring', for marimba soloist with optional wind-chimes; 1996. Composition draft. Score. Dedicated to Evelyn Glennie.
- (3.) 'Canta, canta', for clarinet, cello, and piano; 1996. This is an arrangement of a passage from 'Cantata for a Summer's Day'. Composition draft. Score, cello and clarinet parts. Arrangement dedicated to Victoria Soames.
- (4.) 'Circe', for three flutes; 1996. Sketch, composition draft, score. This work later incorporated into Voices from the Ancient World. Dedicated to Sam Baron and Robert Willoughby.
- (5.) 'Threnody', for clarinet and piano; 1996. Sketches, composition draft, score, clarinet part. Dedicated to Victoria Soames.
- (6.) 'Threnody', for cor anglais and piano; 1996, (2004?). Cor anglais part. The mapping to the 'Dies Irae' theme is explicitly indicated in this part, unlike in the score and parts for the clarinet version.
- (7.) 'In the Still of the Night', for viola; 1997. Sketches. Score, with the programme note appended.
