- Scope & Content:
- Nearly all the letters are from Joseph Fowke to his children Francis and Margaret. They date from February 1784 to March 1786, during which period Margaret was with her brother Francis, who was then Resident at Benares. Their father, Joseph Fowke was at Calcutta all this time, except for a brief visit to Benares early in 1786. The correspondence ends in March 1786 when Francis and Margaret Fowke returned to England, with their father remaining in India until December 1787.
