The item represents the photograph of Selvin's grandfather, Varuvel Ācān, who was the first to develop the practice of siddha medicine within this family. Varuvel Ācān, specilised in varma/bone setting and in pediatrics, had acquired his knowledge from an ācān (guru or master). He practised in the village of Mārāṅkōṇam, Kanniyakumari district.
