The manuscript is composed of a text, entitled Marutuva Āciriyam, whose the author is Poṉ Mikēl Ñāṉiyār of Kāriyāviḷai. It is made up of 150 palm leaves; the text is incomplete. The manuscript is in good condition although the leaves have been darkened by fungus infestation; some leaves are slightly damaged.
The text, written in verses, describes the following preparations of medicines:
Decoctions: Mūtaṇṭa kaṣāyam, Iḷanīr kaṣāyam, Veḷḷeli kaṣāyam, Kōḻi kaṣāyam, Cīṉappa kaṣāyam and Naṭccattirāti kaṣāyam as well as a kaṣāyam for treating eczema (karappāṉ).
Dried plant powders: Cukkāti cūraṇam, Miḷakāti cūraṇam, Tippiliyāti cūraṇam, Civatai cūraṇam, Tāḷiscapattiri cūraṇam, Tiripalāti cūraṇam, Tirikaṭuku cūraṇam, Naṭccattira cūraṇam, Muntiripaḻa cūraṇam, Elāti cūraṇam, Malai iñci cūraṇam, Vajiravalli cūraṇam, Kūḻpāṇṭa cūraṇam, Mataṉa kāmēsvara cūraṇam, Mēkāti cūraṇam, Kataḷi cūraṇam, Pālāti cūraṇam, Caruvāṅka cūraṇam, Cīraka cūraṇam, Acuvāti cūraṇam, Kaṟpūrāti cūraṇam, Tōṭai cūraṇam, Aṉalāti cūraṇam, Kariyupāti cūraṇam, Uṭumpu cūraṇam, Ayamāṅkica cūraṇam, Muttupuṟā cūraṇam, Nilavākai cūraṇam, Karicālai cūraṇam, Maṇṭura cūraṇam, Kapāṭa cūraṇam, Mātalāti cūraṇam, Kānta cūraṇam, Koṭuvēli cūraṇam, Paṭṭai cūraṇam and Kukkil cūraṇam; Kaili poṭi, Irumal poṭi and Kōḻi poṭi, as well as a poṭi for treating diseases caused by pitta imbalance.
Medicated oils: Pālar caṉṉi tailam, Veḷuḷḷi tailam, Navācāra tailam, Caṟuvāṅa tailam, Navakaṇṭa tailam, Cūriya kānta lōka tailam, Iḷampiḷḷai vāta tailam, Kōḻi tailam, Cintāmaṇi tailam, Kalliyāṇi tailam, Matavāṇa tailam, Vilvāti tailam, Āvārampaṭṭai tailam, Mukkūṭṭu tailam and Mūtaṇṭa tailam; Aṇil eṇṇey, Rāma cantaṉāti eṇṇey, Elāti eṇṇey, Caruvāṅka eṇṇey, Cātipattiri eṇṇey, Verukeṇṇey, Añceṇṇey as well medicated oil (eṇṇey) for treating atrophy in children (kaṇai), enlargement of lymph node in groin region (araiyāppu), discharge of pus from ears (cīḻ kātu), head ache (maṇṭai kuttu), sinusitis (pinicam), diseases caused by imbalance of pittam, insanity (paittiyam), facial palsy (mukavātam), white patch in skin (tēmal), diseases caused by bad influence (tōṣam), Mukkūṭṭu eṇṇey for treating diabetes (nīriḻivu) and a medicated oil (eṇṇey) used for children.
Electuaries: Kataḷi racāyaṇam, Matusmiṉi racāyaṇam, Iñci racāyaṇam and Caruvāṅka racāyaṇam; Kūḻpāṇṭa lēkiyam.
Wax-like medicines: Kuṟiñcāṉ kuḻampu, Vilvāti kuḻampu, Nāraṅkāi kuḻampu, Puḷi ilai kuḻampu,
Kōmiya kuḻampu, Kalliyāṇa kuḻampu, Eḷḷu kuḻampu, Iṭivalāti kuḻampu, Ayamāṅkica kuḻampu, Cittiramūli kuḻampu, Tēṅkāi kuḻampu, Caṇṭamāruta kuḻampu, Kaṟpūra kuḻampu, Kaṭukurokiṉi kuḻampu, Kirāṇi kuḻampu and Cavvīra kuḻampu
Pills: Vāta rāṭccacaṉ kuḷikai and Amirtāti kuḷikai; Kānta raca villai; Cala tāri uṇṭai and Raca kaṟpūrāti uṇṭai as well as a pill (uṇṭai) for treating diabetes (nīriḻivu).
Calcined white medicine prepared from metals and minerals: Raca paṟpam.
Calcined red medicine prepared from metals and minerals: Pūraṇa cantrōtayam and Nīlakaṇṭa vālai.
Medicines obtained by sublimation: Pāvu pataṅkam.
Stone like medicines: Liṅka kaṭṭu, Raca kaṟpūra kaṭṭu and Aritāra kaṭṭu.
An external treatment called vēṭu using hot medicated plants for treating thirst (tākam), diseases caused by imbalance of pitta and of kapa, flatus (vāyvu) and anaemia (cōkai).
A medicated pancake (aṭai) for treating piles (mūlam).
A porridge (kañci) for fever (curam).
Medicines (maruntu, not named) for treating fungal infection in skin (paṭar tāmarai) and pain (vali).
A medicated wick (tiri) for treating headache (talaivali).
An ointment (kaḷimpu) for external application on wounds (puṇ).
A medicine for external application (pūccu) for all diseases (viyāti).
The text explains the process of purification (cutti) of a medicinal plant called kukkil and a mineral camphor (kaṟpūram). It informs on the appropriate time of administration of medicines (maruntu ūṭṭum kālam).
Size of the manuscript: 35.0cm x 3.5cm. It is made up of 149 palm leaves including a leaf numbered 140 which is blank. As the numbering of leaves presents some discontinuity, they have been ordered according to verses' number. Some leaves are missing. The manuscript is in good condition although the leaves have been darkened by fungus infestation and some leaves are slightly damaged.
