The manuscript is composed of a Tamil text which, according to the mention in the first leaf of the manuscript, is a translation from a Sanskrit text. The manuscript is in excellent condition.
The text, entitled Maruntu Aṭṭavaṉai, contains 328 palm leaves; it is written in prose. It lists hundreds of medicinal formulations belonging to the categories of tailam (medicated oil) such as Mataṉa kamesvara tailam and Cantaṉti tailam, of paṟpam (calcinated complex product) such as Taḷaka Paṟpam, of ney (medicated butter) and lēkiyam (electuary).
Medicinal formulations are mentioned for treating diseases such as indigestion (māntam), bleeding (ratta viḻutal), low fertility (tatu viriti), veneral disease (piramiyam), hernia (aṇṭavātam), inguinal hernia (kuṭalvātam), scrotal swelling (viraivātam), fever caused by pitta imbalance and vāta cūlai.
The text describes the purification of raw materials, among them mercury (racam), sulphur (kantakam), arsenic trisulphide (tāḷakam), poisonous minerals (palavita paṣaṇaṅkaḷ), cinnabar (cāti liṅkam), Croton tiglium (nērvāḷam), mercuric chloride (vīram), arsenic trioxide (aritāram), borax (veṅkāram), mercury bought from shop (kaṭai racam). It explains the processus to prepare acid products (tirāvakam).
Size of the manuscript: 28.0cm x 2.8cm. The manuscript is a kind of compilation of 328 palm leaves with numerous same numbers. It has been digitalised by respecting the original order of leaves. The condition of the manuscript is excellent.
