The manuscript is constituted of two incomplete texts. It is an excellent condition but is weakened and easily breakable due to fungus infestation.
Text 1- The text, entitled Rutu Kuṟi Cāttiram, is composed of 5 palm leaves numbered 2, 6, 7, 11 and 13, and a leaf without a number. The text, written in prose, describes the menstrual cycle of women and explains how to provide predictions of girls basing on the astrological configuration at the time of their menarche. It informs on the behaviour they have to observe during menstruations notably the colour of dresses and appropriate sitting posture. It. The text presents some drawings (yantiram) used during the sacrifice (pali) of goats and hens. The orthography of the text is poor.
Text 2- The text is made up of 10 palm leaves numbered between 20 and 49. The text, written both in prose and verses, deals with preparations of medicines and mantiram. The medicinal preparations concern Cañcīvi kuḷikai and Kaṭṭuvāṅkāli kuḷikai, and pills (kuḷikai) as well as a decoction (kaṣāyam) for fighting troubles due to bad influence (tōṣam); medicated oils (eṇṇey) for treating diseases caused by vāta imbalance and piles (mūlam) among them an oil which is applied externally on body before taking bath; medicines (maruntu; not named) for improving body stamina (palam) and digestion (cerimāṉam), and for treating thirst (tākam), fever (curam), cholera (kaḻutanīr pēti), indigestion in infants (māntam) and congenital disorders (peṟṟa tāy vaḻiyāl varum piṇi); and a decoction (kuṭinīr) for treating morbid thirst (tākam). The mantiraṅkaḷ provided in the text aim at fighting bad influence caused by birds (paṭci tōṣam), and treating children’s diseases provoked by bad influence (vālai tōṣam).
Size of the manuscript: 27.0cm x 3.0cm. The text 1 is formed of 5 palm leaves numbered 2, 6, 7, 11, 13 and a leaf without a number placed at the beginning of the text; the leaves of the text 2 are numbered between 20 to 49; the leaves 22, 23, 26 to 33, 35, 37 to 44 and 47-48 are missing. The manuscript is in excellent condition but is weakened and easily breakable due to fungus infestation.
