EAP1150/1/192/6: Vithi lak ruiḥ (Toṅ tvaṅḥ mū) [Vithi lakʻ ruiʺ (Toṅʻ tvaṅʻʺ mū)]
Description: A vernacular exposition on the aspects of Abhidhammatthasaṅgaha, an Abhidhamma handbook in Pali that enjoyed wide curricular use in Burma. This work is not credited to Rhve toṅ Charā tau in the text itself; instead the colophon attributes it to Toṅ tvaṅḥ Charā tau Khaṅ krīḥ Phyau Ñāṇālaṅkārasaddhamma mahārājaguru (Ñāṇālaṅkāra mahādhammarājaguru). Accordingly, modern publications assume that Vithi lak ruiḥ is a work of Ñāṇālaṅkāra. However, the common designation of this work in manuscript paratexts is Rhve toṅ Vithi lak ruiḥ suggesting the authorship of Rhve toṅ Charā tau. Given that the text was composed much later than the date of Ñāṇālaṅkāra's death (which occurred in 1124 or 1762), it seems possible that Rhve toṅ Charā tau based himself on the instructional method of Toṅ tvaṅḥ. Further credibility to this hypothesis is lent by the fact that Rhve toṅ is identified as a disciple of Toṅ tvaṅḥ in the Vaṃsadīpanī which means he should be well aware of his teacher's technique of explaning the concept and workings of vithi to monastic students.Extent: jhyī-ḍhyī.Custodial history: (donors of the manuscript) = Re Rhāḥ rvā ne Ūḥ Thok May Up.Author(s)/Creator(s): Guṇamunindālaṅkārasaddhammadhaja mahādhammarājaguru (Guṇacāri), Rhve toṅ Charā tau.Additional date information: Composed in 1800, copied 1912
