This volume contains baptismal records of free individuals and children born to enslaved and freed mothers afte rhte passage of Law 2040/1871, the so-called "Free Womb Law," and registered in the Church of São João Batista (Baptista) de Niterói (Nictheroy). Entries date from 20 Mar 1884 to 20 Mar 1886. The opeing charter was signed by Canon Luis Raymundo da Silva Brito, General Vicar, on 16 Feb 1884. The closing charter was signed by Vigário Conego João Aureliano Couveia dos Santos. The volume includes baptisms of children born to Portuguese parents as well as adults, as well as a record of a pastoral visit conducted on 06 Dec 1884 by Pedro, Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro. Entries were signed by the following clergy: Vigário Conego João Aureliano Couveia dos Santos, Father João Cordeiro da Cruz Saldanha.
