The volume records burials of enslaved individuals registered in the Church of São Gonçalo do Amarante, São Gonçalo-RJ, between 18 Jul 1778 and 26 Jul 1804. It has no opening or closing charters. Entries were signed by the following clergy: Vicar Bento José Caetano Barrozo Pereyra; Coadjutor Domingos Dias; Vicar Bento José Ferreira da Motta; Coadjutor Joaquim José Alvares dos Santos; Vicar Antonio Vicente Roiz Pereira; Manoel Teixeira de Paiva; Coadjutor Felix José Tinoco de (?). The volume records the burials of enslaved individuals belonging to Fathers Francisco da Fonseca and José de Oliveira Barreto; as well as individuals who belonged to military captains Claudio José Pereira da Silva, Miguel de Frias Vasconcellos, Manoel Roza de Barros, Joaquim de Frias, Antonio Vaz Gago Cordovil; Lieutenant Francisco da Costa Barros; and Lieutenant Colonel Joaquim de Frias Vasconcelos. The volume documents a pastoral visitation realized on 31 Dec 1778 by one Pinto. The majority of the decedents were enterred in the Cemitério da Matriz (the church's cemetery), although one individual was enterred in the Engenho de Ipihiba plantation.
Physical characteristics: The volume consists of 387 numbered folios without a cover. Folios 1 - 74; 339; and 341-346 are missing. Some of the folios are torn and/or stained. Dimensions: 36.5cm X 26cm.
