The volume records baptisms of children born to enslaved mothers after the passage of Law 2040/1871, the "Free Womb" Law, and registered in the Church of São João Batista, Itaboraí - RJ between 24 Dec 1871 and 24 May 1886. The opening and closing charters were signed by Joaquim Mattoso Duque Estrada Correia on 01 May 1872. A single record from June 1887 appears after the closing charter. The volume documents a pastoral visit realized on 12 July 1894 by D. Francisco, Bishop of Niterói. Vicar Joaquim Mariano de Castro Araujo signed the entries.
Physical characteristics: The volume consists of 196 numbered folios. It has a cover and is in good condition overall, though some of the final folios show signs of ink damage. Folios 118, 171, 188, 195, 197, and 198 are missing. Dimensions: 33cm X 23.5cm.
