Letter of Valerius Heron alias Sarapion, curator (logistes) of the Oxyrhynchite nome, to his assistant Patermouthios, enclosing the copy of a petition and instructing him to inform the persons accused therein. The petition had been sent to him by Aurelia Thaesis, daughter of Thonis and Taammonion, acting with her husband as a guardian, concerning a dispute over inheritance between Thaesis and her sister and half-brother. Thaesis enclosed the copy of the petition she had sent to the prefect Aelius Hyginus and the prefect’s subscription, who delegated the matter to the logistes.

Lines 13-21: Petition of Aurelia Thaesis to the prefect Aelius Hyginus.

- Papyrus sheet, with severe surface damage throughout; written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. The front bears 30 lines, damaged in places; left and upper margins are extant, the lower margin is damaged; no free space was left on the right. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Script: Three cursive hands: first in lines 1-6, and at the end of line 7 for the signature; second in lines 7-24; third for the subscription from line 25 to end.

Provenance: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 2103-2238 from Bernard Pyne Grenfell (b. 1869, d. 1926) in May 1920.
