A complete copy of theAmoghapāśahṛdaya-dhāraṇī--not the sutra, but thedhāraṇīspell itself, extracted from the widerdhāraṇīsutra, as made explicit in the opening line which says the spell has been "extracted for recitation" (1r.1 log shig tu phyungs). The spell is translated where possible into Tibetan. In this way the present item resemblesIOL Tib J 312/4andIOL Tib J 372/2, which are also copies of the sameAmoghapāśahṛdaya-dhāraṇīspell with as much translated as possible. In this regard, see alsoIOL Tib J 322andIOL Tib J 348, which are translations of theUṣṇīṣavijaya-dhāraṇīspell. Note that the Dunhuang version of theAmoghapāśahṛdaya-dhāraṇīsutra also translates parts of the spell, but with several more passages left in transliteration. The Dunhuang version of the sutra (for a complete copy, see49/4) is clearly a different translation than the canonical edition (compare366), though the two translations do seem to be based on similar Sanskrit originals. The principal differences between the two versions concern the spell proper; compare366: 258b.1- 260a.2with either the present item or49/486-117. Finally, note that the colophon to the Dunhuang version of the text seen in49/4specifies that the work includes both thedhāraṇītext and the ritual manual (cho ga) associated with thatdhāraṇī. Though not distinguished as such, the same ritual manual is also found in the canonical version (366: 260a.3-). It may be that the ritual manual initially travelled alongside thedhāraṇī, and then was subsumed into thedhāraṇīitself.
