- Journal of the Siege of Madras in 1758-59. Order Book from 4th Jan. to 29th Jan. 1759 (sequel to 225), and (reversed) Journal from the 17th Jan. to the 8th February (sequel to 224). The handwriting cannot be confidently said to be the same as that in the specimens of Call's undoubted handwriting given in 26. 5 and 62. 11, but there are close verbal resemblances to Call's Journal of the Siege of Madras as published in Cambridge's Account of the War in India, e.g., under Jan. 27th and Feb. 5th. This Journal. Jan. 27. The Enemy did nothing more last night than widen and raise the work of the preceding nights. Feb. 5. A red flag was seen at the Great Mount this morning with a great smoke which being Capt. Preston's signal we conclude he and Izoff Cawn are thither. Cambridge [Journal]. Jan. 27. A red flag was seen at at the Great Mount in the morning, and a great smoke, so that we conclude Captain Preston and Isouf Cawn are got thither, and hope they will soon be nearer to us. It seems probable, therefore, that this and the next two volumes [Mss Eur Orme O.V. 224 & 225] are Call's Original Journals.
