This is the story about Shivaratri, the holy night dedicated to Shiva to perform rituals and Puja for him. This story is recited during the observance of fasting on that day. It is a part in the Linga Purana which is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, and a Shaivite text. The text's title 'Linga' refers to the iconography for Shiva.
