- Papyrus 1796
- Title:
- Will (P.Lond. V 1727, TM 19741)
- Scope & Content:
- Patermouthis and Kako (here spelled Tkako) draw up their will, bequething all the property of the one who dies first to the survivor, and upon the death of the survivor, to their common children in equal shares. The survivor is to enjoy the income and must settle the debts of the deceased. Any one of the children who contests the will is prohibited from benefitting from it and incurs a penalty of 12 solidi. This will is written in the same year as P. Lond. V 1729 (D37), drawn up by the same scribe, and four of its five witnesses are identical with four of the five witnesses in P. Lond. V 1729.48-51 (D37), who sign in the same sequence. The two testaments were most likely drawn up at the same time, that is, 12 March, 584. Patermouthis lives at least for another 30 years (P.Lond. V 1737 [D51]).
