Two orders from Diodotus, from the estate of Norbana Clara, to Metocus, director of the granary (sitologos). With subscriptions of Gaius Iulius Salvus at the end of both orders.
Upper papyrus (A) (P.Lond. III 1213(a), TM 22837): Order to pay four artabas of wheat on account of four months to Sophus, fellow-slave.
Lower papyrus (B) (P.Lond. III 1213(b); TM 22838): Order to pay five artabas of wheat for five months of the previous year, and four artabas of wheat for four months of the current year, for a total of nine artabas.

Two papyrus sheets, regularly cut, written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank; mounted on cardboard in the same glass frame.
Upper papyrus (A): Damaged by insect holes in the lower half, and slightly abraded in few places; 11 lines; margins survive, with the lower being mutilated; the left bears traces of ink. A sheet-join runs from top to bottom at c. 30 mm from the left edge.
Lower papyrus (B): Lacking the lower right-hand corner and with few insect holes in places; 12 lines, complete; margins are extant. A sheet-join runs from top to bottom at c. 25 mm from the left edge.

Dimensions: A: 109 x 132 mm; B: 100 x 133 mm. Housed in a glass frame measuring 270 x 185 mm.
Script: Small, rapid cursive hand for the bodies of the documents; different hand for the subscription of Gaius Iulius Salvus at the end of each document, thinner and larger.

Provenance: Hermopolis (El-Ashmunein) (?), Hermopolite nome, Egypt. Purchased with a lot comprising Papyri 1200-1520 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 20 November 1903.
