Upper papyrus (A) (P.Lond. III 1217(a), TM 22843): dated to 26 January-24 February 246.
Lower papyrus (B) (P.Lond. III 1217(b), TM 22844): dated to c. 245, with large Xs ('St Andrew’s crosses') and the official’s subscription at the end.

Two papyrus sheets, written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank; mounted on cardboard in the same glass frame.
Upper papyrus (A): Complete, but with a hole at the top, which affects the text, and surface damage in places; 6 lines, the first two of which are damaged. Lower and left margins are wide. In the upper right-hand corner there are 2 additional lines, unrelated to the text.
Lower papyrus (B): Fragmentary, broken off on the sides; 9 lines lacking beginnings and ends; upper and lower margins partly survive.

Script: Thin, cursive hands. A: Thick, unexperienced hand in the upper right-hand corner. B: Rough cursive for the subscription at the end.

Provenance: Hermopolite nome (?), Egypt. Purchased with a lot comprising Papyri 1200-1520 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 20 November 1903.
