- 1, pp. 1-6 (23.5 x 19 cm. Pages 5 and 6 are on a half sheet). Letter, dated East India House, 3 Dec. 1754, from Robert James to Clive. Original. Asks for an account of the incomes of the Province of Arcot, the Kingdoms of Tanjore and Mysore, and the district of Masulipatam, for the information of the Secret Committee of the Board of Directors. This is followed by Clive's notes on the subject. He says, on the authority of Muhammad Ali, that the income of Arcot was 100 lakhs of rupees, and that of Trichinopoly and Tanjore each 50 lakhs, and he estimates that of the French possessions in Masulipatam at £200,000, and that of Mysore at £3,000,000.
- 2, p. 7 (35 x 20.5 cm.). Letter, undated, from Nabob Mahomud Ally Khan Bahauder alias Anwarodean Khan to Mr. Clive Bahauder Saubit Jung. Translation. Sabit Jang, i.e., "the firm or steady in war," is, says Malcolm (Memoirs of Lord Clive, I. 209, note), "the title by which Clive is to this day known among the natives of India."

- 4, pp. 8-10 (35 x 20.5 cm.). Letter, undated, from Nabob Mahomud Ally Khan alias Anwarodean Cawn Bahauder to Mr. Clive. Translation. Expresses his satisfaction at the capture of Arcot and the hoisting of his, the Nawab's, colours; promises reinforcements and sends one Muhammad Muhammad to manage the collection of rent. N.B. The letter is imperfect.

Congratulates him on his victory [at Samayavaram], recalling the glory which Clive had obtained "by defeating Raza Ally Khan and his force at Arcot and taking his Drum, flags and all other stately Ensigns from him," and says that "Derveish Khan," son of Alam Khan, has come over from the enemy.

- N.B. Apparently the order of letters 9-10 should be reversed, but the terms in which they are expressed are too vague to allow of any certainty.
- 11, p. 15 (30.5 x 19 cm.). Letter, undated, from Mahomud Ally Khan alias Anwarodean Khan Bahauder to Mr. Clive Bahauder Saubit Jung. Translation. Congratulates him on the capture of "Laul Guddy."

If he's like the honest Roman of that name I can't pay you a greater compliment than by quoting a sentence out of Quintilian, 'Hoc prepositum sit nobis exemplum. Ille se profecisse sciat cui Cicero valde placebit,' and I must conceive a good opinion of Mr. Orme because he's esteemed by two gentlemen for whose judgment I have a profound veneration."

- 69, pp. 213-221 (31.5 x 19 cm.). Regulations of the Military, Artillery, and Seapoys on the coast of Chormandell. Copy. Signed George Pigot, but not, I think, in Pigot's handwriting. This appears to have been drawn up subsequent to the receipt in Madras of the Court's letter of the 15th Dec. 1752, but prior to the formation of battalions in 1759. It is endorsed "Military Regulations from Madras," and, in pencil, "December 1752," which date is impossible. In many points, e.g., the establishment and pay of a Sepoy Company, it corresponds closely to the order of November 1755 referred to by Colonel Wilson (Madras Army, I. 125), but there are discrepancies, e.g., in the special allowance to European sergeants commanding Sepoy Companies, which Wilson gives as Rs.20 p.m., whilst these regulations give 3 Pagodas only. The fact of these regulations being signed by Pigot tends to show they were subsequent to 1754 when he became Governor. See also Madras Military Consultations, 21 Nov. 1755.
- 70, p. 225 (24 x 20 cm.). List of officers killed, wounded, and taken prisoners. In Clive's handwriting. Copy of latter part of 14. 30. In the Table of Contents to 14 the list is said to cover April 1751 to Sept. 1752.
- 71, pp. 227-229 (22 x 18.5 cm.). Petition of Moadem Saib to Governor Thomas Saunders. Copy. Represents that, though placed in charge of certain districts by Captain Clive, he and his servants have been so ill-treated by the Nawab's people that his Gumashta "Coopana" has committed suicide.
- 72, p. 231 (20 x 12.5 cm.). A return of the killed and wounded in the Grenadier Company. No date.
- 73, pp. 233-236 (31.3 x 20cm.). Deposition of Monsieur Étienne Zilvaiguer, 8 May 1752. Copy. Duplicate of 287. 121. The general purport of this and similar depositions was to show that, whatever the English pretended, they really acted as principals in the war and not as mere allies.
- 74 p. 237 (10.5 x 17 cm.). A scrap containing part of a military return.
