- 1 (21.5 x 35 cm.). A chart from Point Calymere to Tondi, laid down from Remarks and Observations made on board the Snow "Neptune" in 1763 and 1764. J. Rennell, 1764. Manuscript. Possibly an original. James Rennell, the Geographer, commanded the Neptune at this time, and was engaged by the Madras Government to convey to Tondi troops and stores for the army besieging Madura. Apparently he named Palk's Straits after the Governor, Mr. Robert Palk (Governor of Madras, 1763-1767), for the name is not to be found in any earlier map of India.
