Aurelius Theognostus alias Morus writes to the keepers of the public archives of Hermopolis to register the sale of one-third of a house with courtyard and all appurtenances, perhaps bought from his brother Herminus (see Papyrus 1158) and inherited from their paternal uncle. With Theognostus’ and one of the keepers’ subscription at the end. A series of large crosses concludes the document.

Papyrus sheet, complete but damaged by holes and abrasion on the left-hand side; bearing writing on one side, the back being blank; on the front, there are 17 lines running along the fibres; all margins are extant; the right margin is minimal and the lower is ample. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Script: Thin, regular cursive hand, somewhat compressed, for the body of the document. Two hands for the subscriptions from line 13.
