P.C. No. 19 of 1902, from the Court of the Judicial Commissioner of Hyderabad Assigned Districts: between Syed Mahamad Yusufuddin, Appellant, and the Secretary of State for India in Council, Respondent.

This appeal relates to an attempt by hotel keeper, Gopal Chandar, to procure government records through the bribery of Mr Shorn, the Record Keeper in the Foreign Office of the Government of India. Mr Chander claimed he made enquiries on behalf of a Sardar of Hyderabad saying at his hotel, and so a warrant was issued for the arrest of Syed Mahamad Yusufuddin. The Appellant was apprehended on railway land and thus the case includes a debate relating to jurisdiction on such property. An appeal was made for wrongful imprisonment of the Appellant, but, due to the period of limitation on such cases, the P.C. appeal focuses on a debate as to whether bail counts as imprisonment. The appeal was dismissed.
